1 July 2026

Well, that’s half of ’26 in the rear vision mirror……

Our inaugural “Shortest Day – Longest Night” tournament held over the weekend was a resounding success. Fourteen teams of fours played six games of ten ends over two days in cool but clear weather. The sun even made its presence felt on Sunday. The company was great, the food was excellent (and plentiful), and such was the occasion, I reckon it’ll be repeated next year.

Our grateful thanks to our generous sponsors Bayleys Real Estate, particularly Chris Mangels and Evan Marshall who made it all possible.

Watch this space for next year, but in the meantime our ‘Hot August Night’ tournament (three bowl triples) on 8/9 August is over-subscribed, so first 16 teams paid will fill the field.

14 June 2026

As most will know the storm event across Banks Peninsula on 16/17 February 2026 brought silt laden flooding to our bowling green such that it was damaged beyond repair and requires completely replacing.

The Board has decided to embrace a new Tigerweave surface similar to that currently being played on at Redcliffs.Work is programmed to commence on 14 August and we understand that the process will take up to four weeks, but might hopefully be a little quicker, depending on weather conditions.

In the meantime, providing rainfall is minimal, and although the surface is obviously not optimal, it can be played on. We are doing our best to maintain it to continue to provide a satisfactory experience.

Ladies High Tea Tournament 2026.

The Akaroa Bowling Club Ladies High Tea tournament was held on 27 May 2026 on a beautiful, sunny, Autumn day in our “ little piece of  paradise”on the foreshore of Akaroa Harbour.

A total of 54 ladies attended, with 52 taking to the bowling green, all dressed in their finery in every shade of pink.  Five clubs from the Ellesmere area and seven clubs from the Christchurch region were well represented.

The day was filled with fun and friendship, with the ladies enjoying both the bowls and each other’s company.  The highlight for many was the wonderful High Tea.

Nothing deterred Izzie Moore from participating, proudly rolling up her bowls at the remarkable age of 90.

The winners of the Akaroa Ladies High Tea Trophy for 2026 were Joyce Speedy, Leigh Ann May and Jennie King.

The efforts of our wonderful team of Akaroa ladies, along with “Colleen”, “Evelyn” and “Lola” helped make the day such a memorable experience for everyone who participated.
